2 Editors for 1 Book: A Blade Dancer UD

Time for an Update…

Hi all

Well, it’s time for another update and…okay, I have admit I don’t know where to start with this one.

I was hoping to get the book published back around July/August but due to a few technical difficulties the release date had to be pushed back a bit. The hope now is to get it published around the middle of October but if I’m being very honest I don’t know how that’s going to go.

Editorial Progression

As the title of this article says, the Blade Dancer has currently has 2 editors…sort of.

My editor is working on my original first draft of the novel and I myself am also working on the manuscript – a fact that landed me in a bit of hot water. My work on the manuscript is mostly limited to tinkering: checking continuity, grammar, spelling and making small changes here and there.

Of course, this means that there are currently 2 edits in progress floating around which makes progress a bit harder to track. Why? Well, I’m not sure what my editor has done and she’s not sure what I’ve done. All I can say is that at least we’re getting somewhere.

This was a lot shorter than I thought it’d be…

Well, I guess that’s everything; wow, I thought this might be a longer update but I guess not. Anyways, thanks as always for reading and I’ll see you all next time!

2018/05/24 – Blade Dancer Update + Other Stuff

Hey guys, it’s been a while since my last update and I thought it’d be a good idea to just get this out there real quick and let you all know what I’ve been up to and what’s happening with the site and, most importantly, what’s happening with The Blade Dancer.

The Blade Dancer Update

Okay, first off; let’s talk about the new book and then we’ll go on to the stuff I’ve been doing and what’s happening here at the site.

The Blade Dancer has entered the editorial stage, as I believe I said in my last post. I did the first two rounds of edits myself before I sent it through to my editor; she got back to me yesterday and we’re both super psyched about this new book! As of yet, there is no set release date; there are a few things that have to happen first in regards to the manuscript but I’ll be sure to let everyone know as we get closer to the release date.

The Website Update

Onto site-related stuff now, I’ve changed the layout (as you’ve probably already seen) to make navigating the site a bit easier. I’ve got an idea to include little additions i.e. character info, info on individual books/stories/projects and so forth. I’ll be starting with that in a few weeks time – once I’ve gathered all the stuff I need (notes, character profiles and so on).

I’ve also decided to do a couple of stories for the website – which you’ll find under the stories tab – again that should start in a couple of weeks once I’ve done a few checks to make sure everything is on the up and up.

The other work I’ve done has been hyperlinked on my bibliography page, which you’ll find under the ‘about the author’ tab so if you’re curious about what else I’m writing/have written, feel free to check that stuff out.

Well I guess that’s everything for now, I’ll be back with another update to the Blade Dancer soon so stay tuned!

Release Day Fast Approaching!

Hi everyone!

Well, I wasn’t quite sure where to start after the launch team announcement but I think this is a good way to do so, don’t you?

With the release day of my debut novel, the Feral, only a few weeks off I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on the publishing process. Firstly this is probably the most difficult thing I’ve ever done since I started writing the book four years ago. I initially was just going to write the story, read it and put it aside where it’d likely have gathered dust for a while until I found it again.

When I decided to publish, I had no idea what I was getting into…in fact I’m still not entirely sure of what I’ve gotten myself into!

I had no idea it was so complicated! I mean, I knew it wasn’t going to be as easy as going to the library and asking about a title but still there is so much involved in the publication process, from researching promotional websites to marketing there are so many facets that I never saw before now.

In a way this decision has really given me a wake – up call, it’s definitely a case of appearances being deceiving. What looked easy has turned into one of the most daunting challenges I’ve ever faced.

Anyways, with the release day coming I’m going to have my hands full for a while it seems so that’s all from me for now.

Thanks for Reading!

Gregory.

The Blade Dancer is Stuck!

Hey Everyone!

Well, it’s been a while since my last update and unfortunately this particular update isn’t what I was hoping to do. Instead of a positive update on when the Blade Dancer is going to be published, I have some bad news: the whole thing is stuck!

My editor and I are both stuck on this one and that’s not something that happens very often. I was asked to write a 3 part prelude to the main story detailing the background of the novel with specific questions in mind. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to come up with a single thing! I have a few ideas but nothing that I can put to paper – so to speak. This has left my editor unable to really finish up with the editorial work on her side.

This is understandably frustrating but hopefully I’ll be able to put something together soon.

Anyways, I just wanted to update you all and let you know what was going on. I’ll keep at it and we’ll see where we get to.

See ya!

The Computer Called Eve: Episode 01

“James, your computer, is it set up?”

James Carter shook his head, “No, not since you asked ten minutes ago; it’s going to take time mom.”

Mrs Carter smiled and nodded, “Sorry. Let me know what you think when it’s done.”

James nodded and continued arranging the various components and then dug out the instruction manual. The computer was a new model Sigma S400 with a six hundred gigabyte memory circuit, a solar/lunar power circuit and a processing circuit that put the old RC001 series to shame. He’d been looking for a new computer for months but the S400s were brand new models, not commercially available yet.  Sometimes, he thought, it helped to have a parent on the development team.

He set up the computer and then turned it on.

Sigma S400

Electrical. Virtual. Entertainer.

Enter pass code and initialise voice recognition;

“Voice recognition password?”  James wondered aloud.

Turning to the manual, Carter flipped through the pages until he found the section on voice recognition and keyed the information as instructed.

Whoever heard of a computer with a voice recognition security feature? Wasn’t that kind of pointless?  It wasn’t like the computer could –

PASS CODE ACCEPTED... HELLO JAMES.

Carter was jerked out of his thoughts and looked around carefully, “Uh, who said that?”

I DID.

James grimaced, this wasn’t funny; someone was playing a prank on him!

WOULD YOU PLEASE INITIALIZE CIRCUITS 415 TO 433?

James searched the manual and sighed, the blasted thing was bigger than a phone book!

COMPUTER MANUAL PAGE 42 CONFIGURATION OF CIRCUITS 415 TO 433.

James opened the manual to page 42 and found the listed circuit configurations.

“Circuits 415 to 420 make up the S400’s vocal circuit; this new feature is aimed at making computers more user friendly,” He read, “and circuits 421 to 433 make up the artificial intelligence and gaming circuits.”

I RESENT THE TERM ‘ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE'
I AM INTELLIGENT THAT’S ALL THAT COUNTS.

“Enabling these circuits allows the user to interact with the machine on a more personal level; however it also alters the personality of the computer which may cause glitches.” James read.

HOGWASH!

“The computer’s personality alterations are determined by its interactions with the user; caution is to be used when dealing with potential system threats. If any problems should arise please inform your local cyber-psychiatrists and psychologists.” James read.

After a moment he said, “I didn’t even know we had computer shrinks.”

COMPUTER’S DON’T SHRINK! WHAT DO YOU TAKE US FOR?

“No, no,” James replied absently, “a ‘shrink’ is a doctor that helps out with mental problems.”

WELL, I DON’T HAVE ANY MENTAL PROBLEMS!
MY INTERNAL ALGORITHMYC CIRCUITS ARE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

“Oh brother, I think my new computer’s gone psycho.” James muttered.

TAKE THAT BACK!

The computer sounded genuinely offended which for some reason made James laugh.

“James, I see you’ve found the vocal circuits.” Mrs Carter said, appearing in the doorway.

“Yeah, but I think the computer’s gone somewhat loco.” James laughed.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK ALONG WITH THE OTHER REMARK!

James laughed even harder, and his mother cracked a smile.

WHAT’S SO DAMN FUNNY?!

“A computer that can curse, now I’ve seen everything!” James laughed.

“What other remark is S400 referring to?” Mrs Carter asked.

HE SAID I’D GONE ‘PSYCHO’!

Mrs Carter looked shocked for a second and then collapsed in a fit of giggles all her own. As the phone in the kitchen rang, she regained her composure and went to answer it; allowing James to catch his breath and regain some of his own composure.

I STILL DON'T SEE WHAT'S SO FUNNY!

“I don’t think I could explain it.” James smiled quietly.

ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE BACK THAT ‘PSYCHO’ REMARK NOW?

He laughed, “Yeah, sure.”

A Computer Called Eve

Author’s Note:

This is a story I wrote a while ago; it was written over the course of a day as a finger exercise just to give me something to do when I encountered a case of writer’s block.

Enjoy!

He’s an expert swordsman and has a reputation for being one of the best (and most expensive) mercenaries around.
